Today Gesty Gets A New Name!

So today we finally had cooperation. I am 21 weeks and 1 day. We had our 2nd sex check ultrasound today, and found out right off the bat that IT'S A GIRL!!!! We could not be any more excited. So of course we had to go buy something girly today. It's a cute little purple bunny outfit.

We have had her name picked out for about 7 years now. I have always thought that I would have a girl first, although I swayed back and forth during my pregnancy. Her name will be Katelyn. Her middle name is yet to be determined.

Time is flying

I cannot believe that we are half way done with the pregnancy. Karen has been amazing the entire time. I could probably do a better job of bringing her breakfast in bed :)

I have read a lot about pregnancy so far but nothing can prepare you for the feeling of seeing your child for the first time on a sonogram. I am usually not brought to tears over stuff but that will really get you. I cannot wait to hold the little one for the first time. Lately I have had dreams that it is a little girl. Hopefully we will find out next week.

Anyway, I just wanted to contribute a little to the blog. Hopefully we will know what we are having next week and can start really getting stuff ready. While it feels real it will feel more real when we can start calling Gesty by his/her real name.

20 Weeks

Today I am 20 weeks. I can't believe that I am halfway through my pregnancy. It's going by so fast which is a good thing. I am ready to meet Gesty. But before Gesty arrives, we have a lot to do. Hopefully Gesty will cooperate next week when we try again to see who is my belly so that we can start planning the nursery.

Billy took me to buy Gesty a neutral outfit the other day for Valentine's which I thought was really sweet. We had no clue what we were doing LOL. I had to call Erin K. to figure out how all these sizes worked. We have so much to learn. We learned from Erin that babies over 7.5 lbs. probably won't fit in a newborn sized outfit. So just in case we have a 8+ lb. baby we went with 0-3 mos. It will be interesting when we try to do our registry. Erin, expect to be on-call that day... haha.

Dogs in the Snow

The dogs had way too much fun this morning in the snow. Every time we would bring the dogs inside to warm up, Nibbler cried to go back outside and play some more. They both love the snow, and of course we had fun too.

Sinus Infection

It turns out I have a sinus infection and the doctor did give me 2 perscritions. I was a little skeptical of his choice of drugs. The antibiotic is a category B drug and is ok to take while pregnant. The decongestant worried me though. He says most decongestants and antihistimines are category C, but they are fine to take while pregnant. Category C basically means they don't know what affect it will have on the baby. I decided to get a second opinion from my pharmacist. He also told me they were both fine. I still didn't feel comfortable with that answer and some websites say it could be harmful to unborn babies. I decided I needed a third opinion and called my OB's office. My OB's nurse confirmed that the antibiotic was ok, but she said to take the decongestant only if I was absolutely miserable and to only take it sparingly, so I decided to stay away from that one. The doctor and the pharmacist may be right, but I don't want to chance it. Hopefully, the antibiotic alone will help this clear up.

Relief, Please

I have had some kind of crud or something all weekend. After much convincing from Billy, I decided to stay home today. I probably could use the rest and the time to go to the doctor. I kind of sound like Darth Vader. Being pregnant, I not allowed to take hardly anything. I'm hoping there is something Dr. Sanders can give me for some kind of relief. I have tried Tylenol Cold and Saline Nasal Spray. Those are pretty much all I can take and I am still miserable.

17 Weeks, 1 Day

Yay! 17 week sonogram. We can finally find out if we are having a boy or a girl!.... or maybe not. Gesty was not ready to show off his/her gender. During the sonogram Gesty sat on his/her foot in breech position and refused to move, even after the technician poked around on my belly.

Even though we have to wait 4 more weeks, we were still so happy to see our little Gesty moving around on the screen. All of his/her measurements were perfect and so was the heartbeat at 155 bpm.

So, here is Gesty at 17 weeks, 1 day. He/she is arching his/her back and has their hand is up to their mouth, possibly sucking their thumb.

7 Weeks, 6 Days

This is our 2nd ultrasound which was at 7 weeks, 6 days when there was actually a baby to measure. This was my favorite picture of the day. You can see Gesty's little arm and leg buds. This is when they decided that I was due July 5, 2010.

Gesty

As y'all know, last October we found out that we FINALLY got pregnant. What you might not know, is how the baby got its pre-birth name. On our first office visit, they went ahead and did and ultrasound to try and determine how far along I was. When they did the ultrasound, I was so early that there was no baby to measure yet, just a gestational sack. Billy decided that we need a name to call the baby and why not Gesty the gestational sack? Perfect!

The Beginning

With family and friends that live out of town and the fact that we are adding to our family, I thought now would be the perfect time for us to start a blog. So from time to time, I will fill y'all in with the latest Atkins news, and upload pictures and videos. I hope y'all stop by often and feel free to leave comments.
